Assemblies, Workshops, Performances

Over nearly 20 years, my career has taken me on quite a path, and I largely find myself at the nexus of music and technology. As an independent artist, I’ve had to find creative solutions to maintain my momentum, and this has shaped not only my output, but established and continually reaffirmed my view that all paths require and rely on the interdependency of a diverse set of skills. Doing just that, I combine my voice, violin, guitar, synthesizers and beatboxing together with live looping technology to be the fullest version of myself as a solo performer.

My time spent earning a Bachelor’s in Music Performance on violin was invaluable, but it formed only a small piece of “the puzzle” for me. The program I’ve built is just as adaptable as I’ve had to be to succeed, and I’m easily able to connect with students whether they are K-5 or graduate-level. I can lean much more into music theory, composition, arrangement, and performance when working with music students, tailored to any skill level. For assemblies and workshops more focused on STEM, I can lean more into the technology that I use, creative applications of and the science involved in using said equipment to its potential, and the critical role that math plays both on and off the stage. At schools with recording studios, I can work with students on recording/engineering, music production, mixing, and content delivery.

I was fortunate to have a music teacher in 4th grade that went above and beyond to advocate for me. Just months after I first picked up a violin, world-touring jazz violinist and composer John Blake (Grover Washington Jr., McCoy Tyner) came to my school to speak and perform with his jazz fusion quartet. Thanks to what my music teacher saw in me, I ended up on stage with Blake, and the experience was a major source of excitement and possibility for me. The opportunity to have the same effect on students from this side is just as exciting for me.
